Was born in 1812 and died 21 Sep 1895.
Married Ollie Morgan on 4 Jul 1833.
Served in the 39th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry, Company E.
Five sons also served in the Union Army.

Daughter of Lewis and Ollie (Morgan) Sowards.
Front row, l to r, Edward (Ed), America, Joseph and Mary Leona Back row, l to r, William (Will), James (Jim), Jettie Susan, and Lewis. Lewis b. 1864 was named for his grandfather and the only child born in Pikeville. The others were born in Minnesota. Mary Leona (my grandmother) was born 3 Sep 1873 so this picture had to be taken in the 1880's in Minnesota.

Born 1836
Son of Lewis and Ollie (Morgan) Sowards.
Married Virginia Ratliff on 3 Nov 1858
Thomas and Virginia had 8 children. Thomas' youngest son was named Lewis after his grandfather.

Youngest daughter of Lewis and Ollie (Morgan) Sowards.
Born 21 Apr 1843 and died 20 Dec 1927.
Her first husband William Scott was wounded in the Civil War and died in 1866. Scott street in Pikeville was named for him. They had one child, Johnie Scott that died when he was five years old.
It is said that Kentucky was the richest woman in the state of Kentucky at the time of her death in 1927.

Photo was found in my grandmother's trunk.
1900 census it lists Kentucky (Sowards) Ferrill (Richard Ferrill was her 2nd husband and died prior to 1900) as head of household with her nephew Otto Bentley and Corrie Buckett, servant.
In the book "Pike County,Kentucky A Pictorial History" by Ed and Connie Maddox there is a picture of this house and says it is the home of Kentucky (Sowards) Powers and husband Jim Press Powers (Kentucky's 4th husband).

Youngest child of Lewis and Ollie (Morgan) Sowards.
Born Mar 1848
Married Linchey Price on 26 Sep 1873
William and Linchey had nine children. Linchie died and he married Margaret Agnes Stoots 19 Jan 1898. William and Maggie also had nine children, but only five lived to adulthood. William and Maggie's eighth child was named Lewis after his grandfather. They left Pikeville in 1905 and settled in Washington state where they are buried.

Married to Rebecca Moore
Sheriff of Pike County.
