HUSTON - Looking for information on Preston HUSTON
who was listed in 1830 Pike Co. KY census. I believe he may have
been father of Mary (Polly) HUSTON who married Isaac POTTER in
Perry Co. in 1827. Mary was born 1808 in VA, so Preston may have
been born there. Elizabeth HUSTON, dau of Preston and Hanner
married Aaron HARLESS 20 Jul 1830 in Pike Co. Preston was dead by
1836 when Malinda HUSTON married William RATLIFF 8 Sep 1836 with
consent of guardian Wm. WEDDINGTON. Weddington also signed
consent for marriage of James HUSTON to Sarah SWORD, Sep 7, 1841
as guardian. Anyone out there researching this Huston family?

My name is Brenda Wright Jackson. My father's is from Wise county
and I am looking for obituaries for his father, Walter Price
Wright, he died on October 31, 1938-1940. Not really sure of the
year, the date is correct. Also am looking for his grandfather's
obituary. His name was Orbin Willie Wright, he was a brakeman for
the Railroad in Big Stone Gap. He died about April of 1912. He is
buried in Big Stone Gap. My father's brother was Frank Wright, he
was the mayor of Wise many years ago. He died on October 31,
1991. I am having a difficult time finding any information about
my fathers family. I did find his grandfather in the 1910 Census
and his grandmother in the 1920 Census.
Any help that you could give me on this family would be of great
help. I do know that my great-grandmother was from Scott County,
her name was Julia Lawson and she was married to Orbin Willie
Wright. Thanking you in advance, Brenda Jackson, 140 Orleans

HACKNEY FAMILY -PIKE CO. KY
Thomas Hackney 1796- ca 1878 and Priscilla DRAKE ca1800- 1860's

COLEMAN - I am Robert E. Coleman of Blanchester, Ohio 45107
(513)783-4697). I descend from Peter Coleman Jr, b. c1774, d.
c1852, buried at Wolfpit, KY in Pike Co. He was first married to
Charlotte _____, from whom I descend. Four of Peter's brothers,
Abraham, Richard, Steven and Daniel came to Pike Co., originally
from Grayson Co. VA, in early 1800's. Abraham came first, around
1804 I think. The father of these four boys was Peter Coleman,
Sr., married to Abigail Jaynes, who died in Grayson Co. c1808.
Two of Peter Jr's sons, Alexander (married in Pike Co. in 1818 to
Nancy Wooton) and James (my gread grandfather, married Elizabeth
Williamson in Pike Co. in 1820), migrated from Pike Co. to
Lawrence Co. Indiana around 1838. James Coleman (son of Peter
Jr.) and Elizabeth had a son, named Alexander (named after James'
brother). James' son Alexander fought in the battle of Pea Ridge
Arkansas in the Civil War. He moved from Lawrence Co. IN to
Missouri (where my father Patrick Henry Coleman was born) and
finally to Maude, Oklahoma where he died in 1907. My father, P.H.
Coleman, moved from Oklahoma to Globe, Arizona in 1923, where I
was born in 1932.
The reason I am not far removed in time from ancesters of early
1800's Pike Co. is that Peter Jr. married multiple times and had
children well into old age as did my grandfather, Alexander
(three wives and 20 something children) and as did my father
(married three times and 15 or 16 children). My father was old
when I was born and my grandfather was also old when my father
was born. (And now I am getting old).
I have located many Coleman cousins, representing various
branches from the Pike Co. lines. Of course, Clair (Coleman)
Kelly is in Pike Co. and has contributed to the local historical
society there over the years. And your historical society has the
Coleman book authored by Johnathan Coleman of Pike Co. Johnathan
focused on the Abraham branch of Colemans and was not aware of my
great grandfather James Coleman and many of the other descendents
of Peter Jr. (brother of Abraham).
This may not have been the appropriate place to be communicating
these details. If not, I appologize. Perhaps you could point me
in the right direction. I will access the query page to enter one
or two queries. Thanks very much for your effort as part of the
GenWeb project. It's an incredibly ambitious and significant
project. You people are doing astounding work.
Bob.

COLEMAN - 1. Trying to identify the anscestors of Peter Jr.
Coleman who was born about 1774 and was buried in a private
Coleman cemetary in Wolfpit, Pike Co., KY c1852. His father was
Peter Coleman Sr., married to Abigail Jaynes, who died in Grayson
Co. VA c1808. Two possibilities for the anscestors of Peter Sr.
of Grayson Co. are:
a) Robert Coleman of Mobjack Bay, Gloucester Co. VA (m. Elizabeth
Grizzel, immigrated c1630, d. c1680); Joseph Coleman (m. Agnes
Adleston); William Coleman of Amelia Co. VA (m. Faith Godfrey);
Peter Coleman of Amelia Co. VA (m. Martha ---)
b) Peter Sr. originally came from Orange Co. New York, migrated
to North Carolina and then to Grayson Co. VA.
Could anyone provide evidence for either of these possibilities
or any other possibilities?
2) Peter Jr. of Pike Co. apparantly separated from his first wife
Charlotte (my great great grandmother) in early 1800's, finally
marrying Sarah Dale in later years in Pike Co. Charlotte
originally lived close to Steven Coleman near Racoon Creek
between 1810 and 1820. She moved to Bryantsville, Lawrence Co.
Indiana with her two sons, James and Alexander (and also, maybe,
Thomas and Moses) around 1838. All of these people can be found
in census and other records in Indiana. Alexander was the first
blacksmith of Bryantsville, Indiana. But I have not been able to
find any record at all of her son James Coleman after they arrive
in Indiana. He must have arrived there, because his wife
Elizabeth has two children that are born in Lawrence Co.
Elizabeth is identified as a widow and remarries to William Ray
of Lawrence Co. IN. I found her grave site at a church cemetary
there. Does anyone have any information at all about what
happened to my great grandfather, James Coleman of Bryantsville,
IN? I have not yet completed a search of all of the Bedford IN
court house files. I have not been able to locate any newspapers
of the time.
Thanks for taking this query.
